Bianca Andreescu, one of the highest-rated athletes in tennis, has been forced to leave the Australian Open. This comes following after a significant left knee injury re-ignited during this tennis tournament. Thousands of fans expressed their disappointment through social media platforms, with Bianca being the youngest female athlete to acquire championship titles in tennis. This includes the Grand Slam Singles Tournament and US Open, where she competed against the likes of Serena Williams. When asked how she felt about the early retirement in Australia, Bianca expressed that she hadn’t provided herself the required time for rehabilitation. Moving forward, the women from Mississauga Ontario will spend the next two months recuperating her left knee.

The First Grand Slam in the Australian Open begins on January 20th, with many sports analysts being incorrect on their anticipated competitors. Bianca Andreescu was expected to reach the semi-finals, this coming after she became the 6th highest-ranked player worldwide. It should be noted that these accomplishments followed after two significant injuries, those being her right should and left knee. These injuries have prompted the 19-years-old athlete to retire in previous matches, including the 2019 French Open and Wimbledon. Even with these overwhelming issues, this young tennis superstar acquired the Canadian athlete of the Year.

Bianca Andreescu returned to her home province of Ontario, Canada. She acquired the Rogers Cup in Toronto, which is less than one hour from her hometown of Mississauga. She obtained this championship title before obtaining the United States Open Trophy. Bianca’s talents allowed for seventeen matches to be won consecutively, with nobody maintaining this record since Serena Williams. Bianca would then go onwards to defeat Serena Williams, an ultimate champion for the World Tennis Association. However, it should be noted that the removal of Andreescu leaves Canada without a viable female athlete for the Australian Open.

The Men Players

This doesn’t mean that Canadians don’t have somebody to root for in the coming weeks. Eugenie Bouchard for the Quebecois is slated to enter the qualifying rounds for this Grand Slam event. When it applies to standard Canadians, four players appear for the qualifying round. This includes Dennis Shapovalov, Felix Auger, Milos Raonic and Vasek Pospsil. Throughout these careers, these four athletes have acquired multiple WTA titles. It’s expected that Felix Auger will reach the semi-finals and compete against notable athletes like Rafael Nadal or Roger Feder.

It should be noted that these events could be postponed, which is dependent on the bushfire conditions surrounding Sydney. Organizers for the Australian Open have been provided authority to disperse crowds for the safety of athletes and guests. Weather reporters indicate that systems will be cooling down, with the increased presence of rain. Subsequently, the Australian Open should continue, and the bushfires should end shortly.
