Stadium of the Year Results
The stadium of the year voting process is in its 9th edition and this year more than 35,300 voters nominated the stadium they love most. The voting process includes votes from 111 countries. The largest number of votes cast this year came from Russia and Hungary. The top two was followed by the most cast from Iran, Austria, Italy, Poland, Belarus and the USA.
Volgograd Russia
The stadium that won the Stadium of the Year for 2018 is the Volgograd Arena in Russia. The stadium features a 45,568 capacity and was constructed between 2015 and 2018. The design team was PI Arena and GMP Architects and construction costs are estimated at $299 million.
Samara Arena Russia
The second place in the voting process went to the Samara Arena in Russia that scored 48,249 points. The arena capacity is 44.918 and the construction started in 2014 and was completed by April 2018. The cost of the stadium came to $299 million and the designers are PI Arena and GUS SO TerrNIIgrazhdanproekt.
Stadium Nizhny Novgorod
Russian stadiums also took the 3rd spot and this time it is the Stadium Nizhny Novgorod with 39,704 points. Offering a capacity of 45,000 the stadium construction started in 2014 was completed by March 2018. The building cost was $325 million and the designers are PI Arena and Sport In.
Rostov Arena
By now it appears that the most favoured stadiums are in Russia as the fourth place earned via 35.034 points belongs to Rostov Arena. This Russian stadium features a capacity of 45,335 and its construction time was from the end of 2014 up to March 2018. The cost of the arena designed by Crocus Group and TSNIIPROMZDANI came to $348 million.
Mordovia Arena
Still, in Russia, the fifth place goes to the Mordovia Arena in Russia, earned via 28,942 points. The stadium building started in October 2010 and after completing in 2018 it offers a capacity of 44,149. The building costs came to $288 million and the arena was designed by AO Gradproekt and Sport In.
Foolad Arena
The sixth place in the Stadium of the Year awards went to a stadium in Iran, called the Foolad Arena. The sports stadium features a 27,501 capacity and was constructed between 2008 and 2018. Designed by Crocus Group and TSNIIPROMZDANI, the construction cost came to $40 million.
Stadion Kaliningrad
Russia also claimed the seventh position earned via 29,952 points and this time it is the Stadion Kaliningrad. The construction of the stadium started in September 2015 and was completed by March 2018. It has a capacity of 35,212 and was designed by Crocus Group and TSNIIPROMZDANI, building costs came to $300 million.
The results put the Tsentralnyi Stadion in eight positions, and in ninth is was Hungary’s DVTK Stadion. While Belarus’ Nacyjanalny Alimpijski Stadion earned the tenth position and the eleventh was earned by Hungary’s MOL Arena Sosto. The rest of the top twenty included the Optus Stadium in Australia and Suzhou OSC Stadium in China.
